As a brand and as a team, we strive to minimise harm to our planet in all that we do. We don’t believe in disposable fashion and always take great care through the design process, with a mission to design the pieces that will be treasured as part of your wardrobe forever.

We’ve recently embarked on our sustainability journey - a commitment to reducing our impact through continuous improvement of our processes and materials. As a consumer goods brand, we cannot claim to be 100% sustainable, however we're committed making ongoing changes to better our business. As part of our sustainability journey, we’ve begun tracing our supply chain and implementing sustainable fibres into our collections. We recently replaced our disposable plastic garment bags with a recyclable version and are in the process of phasing our our plastic mailers, replacing these with home compostable versions. We’re also working on a roadmap to offer more clarity around our decision making and transparency in our processes as part of our commitment to always seeking areas for improvement, and to ensure we’re keeping our community informed.

We're passionate about creating awareness for the causes we feel connected to - particularly those that affect women, children and the environment. We're committed to making small changes that matter, to do our part to help our local and global community thrive. Our new Luxe range is now made using recycled polyester (rPET).

It’s taken over a year for our team to develop our new Luxe fabrication, ensuring we maintain the same luxurious quality and silk-touch feel.

Made from plastic bottles that would have otherwise ended up in landfill, Recycled Polyester also utilises fewer resources than conventional polyester, and generates far fewer CO2 emissions and is part of our commitment to becoming a more responsible and circular brand.

Seabin Project is responsible for collecting trash, oil, fuel and detergents from our oceans.

There are over 850 Seabins installed globally and their technology has collected 1.8 million kilos of garbage and plastics from our oceans to date.

How does it work?

The Seabin moves up and down with the range of the tide collecting all floating rubbish.

Water is pulled in from the surface and passes through a catch bag inside the Seabin, with a submersible water pump capable of displacing 25.000 litres per hour. The water is then pumped back into the marina leaving litter and debris trapped in the catch bag.

The Seabin can catch an estimated 3.9kgs of floating debris per day or 1.4 tons per year (depending on weather and debris volumes) including micro plastics down to 2mm small.

A challenge Seabin Project continues to face is a lack of volunteers.

As part of our ongoing partnership our team have loved volunteering their time to help Seabin with servicing and Data Collection.

To volunteer your time or make a donation we encourage you to visit their website.

All mothers and their children deserve access to basic healthcare and the chance for their families to get ahead. SurfAid is a not for profit organisation committed to improving the health and wellbeing of mothers and children living in isolated regions, by enabling local people to develop and apply their own development ideas rather than simply delivering our own.

To support the incredible work of SurfAid's Women & Children Program, we've curated a capsule collection of easy wear linen outfits, designed for the Australian Summer, in a palette of Coconut Milk, Olive and Sand. For every garment sold from the SJ X Surfaid Capsule Collection, Shona Joy will be donating $10 to SurfAid.

Donated funds will support SurfAid in improving the lives of women and children in remote areas and isolated villages where the maternal and child mortality rates are some of the highest in the world. Together, we can give families the best chance of getting ahead by providing access to healthcare, clean water and sanitation and improved nutrition.

Women Sport Australia (WSA) is the country’s peak national not-for-profit organisation committed to creating equal opportunities for women and girls in sport. Shona Joy is proud to support the incredible work of WSA to inspire, attract, retain and develop women in sport and aid their advancement in the workforce as athletes, coaches, managers or executives.
To support the campaign toward gender equity for women in sport, we’re proud to have partnered with WSA. Our donations have been used to subsidise the WSA Mentoring Program, facilitating career development opportunities for women working in sport across Australia. Additionally, The Shona Joy Scholarship was established to ensure this incredible program is more readily available.

Each year, 100,000 women in NSW along struggle to find a job - putting themselves and their family at risk. Dress for Success Sydney is a charity that has brought hope to more than 15,000 of these disadvantaged women - transforming their lives by offering the skills and confidence they need to secure work and gain financial independence.

For the past two years, Shona Joy has partnered with Dress for Success - as part of our mission to do our part in ensuring every woman has the same opportunity to feel independent and empowered. We have proudly donated our dresses to both the Sydney and Illawarra branches, supported the organisations through fundraising and donations and have dressed young women attending their school formals or graduation dances, who couldn't have otherwise afforded to attend.
